Every Spot Tells a Story

Finn is a sweet Dalmatian puppy with bright eyes, floppy ears, shiny black spots, and a little heart-shaped marking that makes him truly one of a kind.

He is loved very much—but Finn doesn’t always feel special.

Each morning, Finn studies his reflection and wishes he looked like one of the other dogs in Willow Bark Village. Maybe he would be happier with soft curls, golden fur, long ears, fewer spots, or no spots at all.

With a little encouragement from Mama, Finn sets out to meet the village’s many wonderful dogs. Along the way, he discovers that Penny’s tiny size helps her squeeze through small spaces, Bruno’s great height lets him see over everything, Luna’s beautiful curls can be difficult to manage, and Gus’s wrinkles are part of the joy he brings to everyone around him.

Finn also meets Maple, Echo, Winston, and Hazel—each with a different appearance, personality, talent, and challenge. Every new friend helps Finn understand that no one is perfect in exactly the same way.

Then Finn meets Stella, another Dalmatian whose spots are warm chocolate brown instead of black. When Stella admires Finn’s tiny heart-shaped spot, he sees himself differently for the first time.

Finn finally realizes that he doesn’t need fewer spots. He simply needs to appreciate the wonderful puppy he already is.

Perfectly Spotted is a warm, beautifully illustrated picture book about self-acceptance, friendship, empathy, and celebrating the qualities that make each of us unique. Perfect for children who have ever wished they looked, felt, or acted more like someone else.

“I don’t need fewer spots. I just needed to see them differently.”
